Among the other private and public participating schools in Iligan City, St. Michael’s College has won the Overall Champion (High School Category) for the third time during the 12th YAPIS (Youth Advocators Productive Integrated Services Inc.) Literary Festival. This time, the trophy will not only be housed for a year until the next Lit Fest but will now rest in the BED Campus and can never be turned over after making a Grand Slam.
With the theme, “Gearing up towards Literary Transcendency”, the event was held at Doña Juana Actub Lluch Memorial Central School, Pala-o, Iligan City, on July 28 – 30, 2017. The three-day event was participated by the selected students in elementary, junior high school and senior high school to compete in various literary events.
High School Michaelites reign supreme as it won Champion in Chain Storytelling, Radio Broadcasting, Canvass Painting, and Photo Essay (Kevin Brent Manuel, Grade 10); 1st Runner-up in Impromptu Speech (Suzanne Alexa Marie Penola, Grade 11), 2nd Runner-up in Impromptu (Melit Jane Yu, Grade 12); 2nd Runner-up in Sabayang Pagbigkas and Balak (Ryan Kent Cabahug). Marun Layno, and Alliah Mae Banglos, also won as Best Speakers in the Elementary Debate Tournament.
The Chain Storytellers Champion were composed of Kassandra Buenafe (Grade 12), and Jennel Badong, Michael Gingoyon, Threcia Digamon, and Allen Branzuela (Grade 11). Radio Broadcasting Champions were Juan Miguel Rodriguez, Mel Dianne Tilao, Maica Ramayan (Grade 12), and Jeff Kline Licayan (Grade 10). Canvass Painters were Jan Paulo Lumpaz (Grade 12), Gwyneth Chiu (Grade 11), and Athena Flores (Grade 9).
The participants were trained by their respective coaches along with the school administrators and by the Official Student Publication moderators of St. Michael’s College, namely Mrs. Jecyl Sade of Bedlisiw and Mr. April Al Ian Jacob of Banwag. Furthermore, it was also headed by the MaSci Chairman, Mr. Fhelmar Rondillas.
The other competitions were Speech Choir, Newscasting, Photography, Quiz Bee, Storytelling, Creative Writing. This event is an annual city literary tilt hosted by Youth Advocators Productive Integrated Services, Inc., a community-based organization.
