Our responsibility in the Information Technology Center is to implement and administer technology at educational level bringing high level computing, visualization, and web services to the students and staff of the college.
Functions of the ITC Office
The Information Technology Center (ITC) is responsible for the planning and implementation of IT infrastructure in the institute. The department is taking a headship role in looking opportunities to use information technology to provide improved levels of service to the students and staff of SMC.
ITC is also responsible for computer support services, software development, technology planning, and standards for providing information in the campus
History of the Information Technology Center
Information Technology Center went through several organizational transformations as the information technology infrastructure at SMC grew.
The Technical Department was established under the Finance Office headed by Edgar B. Banawa in 1999.
The office was passed to Jonard J. Visnar in 2003 and served as the Technical Department Head. It was overseen by the former Vice-President Dr. John Erwin Salomon and was renamed to Ignacian Communications Office in mid 2006. An Information Systems Group was formed at that time implementing the institute's information processing and network systems. But due to professionalism misconduct, the Information Systems Group was temporarily suspended and left the Technical Division only operational.
The office was fully operational again in mid 2007 but only serves as the multimedia and marketing arm of SMC which was supervised by the former president Sis. Ma. Yolanda C. Reyes, RVM. In 2008, the office was administered by the current Vice President for Administration, Prof. Romero Hermosilla, DPA.
In 2009, the department was handled by Camilo C. Lozano III who serves the IT Director as well as the Systems Administrator. This time, it was change to Management Information System Department and the core IT group was formed. IT systems was fully implemented such as campus wide wireless connectivity, dedicated servers, and the official website of SMC. With the assistance of the Clusterminds Society, the MIS Department was able to provice efficient IT services in the campus.
Earlier in 2010, it was renamed to Information Technology Center with its 4 divisions:
Management Information System Office
The core group of the ITC Office which is responsible for systems & network administrations and software & web development projects.
Responsible for marketing and promotions in creating multimedia advertisements for the college.
Ignacian Technical Office
The technical group of the institute and responsible for the repair and maintenance of the computers in the campus.
This is the student IT enthusiast society that provides assistance in the group such as network and technical support, photography, video coverage, and content writing.
