March 24, 2010 - Wednesday
SMC Webmaster

Graduation day is a special day in every student who had successfully done his four-year degree course. After the distress of being a student, the moment they had been waiting for had finally come.
Last March 20, 2010 an event that would leave a mark to the students was held successful, with the theme "SMC Beyond Beginnings at 95". The event was held at St. Joseph's Gymnasium. The gym was fully jam-packed with people witnessing the said event.
The event started with a Baccalaureate Mass presided by Bishop Elenito D. Galido, D.D. It could be seen on the faces of each student that they were happy and excited knowing that they had already accomplished their part as students.
After the mass, the commencement ceremony proper had started with the marshals from the College Of Criminology.
Prof. Glenn Joseph Q. Obach, the Director of Records presented the candidates for graduation. The first department who marched was the College of Criminology (COC) followed by the College of Nursing (CON), next was from the College of Hotel and Restaurant Management (CHRM), College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT), College of Business and Technology (CBT), the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), and finally the Graduate School with their respective degree. The graduates got their diplomas and awards with a smile on their faces.
The event’s special guest speaker was the 2010 Philippines Most Trusted list by Reader’s Digest (#4), 2006 Ramon Magsaysay Awardee for Community Leadership and the Gawad Kalinga Founder, Dr. Antonio P. Meloto.
He was glad to witness once again a new breed of Filipino for a brighter future. To the graduates he said, “This is not your night, but this is the night for your parents.” Indeed, it was for the graduates’ parents’ struggles and pains had finally paid off. He challenged them to not do things better, but instead to do things differently. He told them to help our country clear its history from being one of the most corrupt countries in Asia. As a start, they should first fall in love with their own country and fly Filipino brands.
Dr. Meloto believes that the graduates were not born as a mistake but for excellence. “Handa na ba kayo to be really wealthy?” – a question left for the new professionals ended his speech.
The graduates of S.Y 2009-2010 proved their selves towards the excellence and the existence of being a Michaelite. Hence, Congratulations and Good Luck to your chosen career!
